I like conservatives, in fact, I am one.
However, we do silly things.
We also say very silly things sometimes.
Further, it seems from the link above that some of us don't have a very good sense of humor.

I'm sure the joke has been around a long time, probably even from before there were American conservatives.

Not the greatest joke mind you, but good in a pinch and when you need a funny bit for a movie about "City Slickers"
